To change the sport, start a new game.
At the limit, the other team is in the bonus.
For playoffs: each team gets a try in turn, from the 5-yard line (1 point) or the 10-yard line (2 points), until one team leads after the same number of tries. Only the winning team's points from the last round are added to its score.
Playing time (rec leagues): when the clock reaches 0, the point in progress is played out, then the game ends; a tie stands.
To change it, start a new game.
Soft: after the point in progress, the game goes to the higher score plus 1. Hard: the game ends after the point in progress, with a universe point if tied.
Counted on the cap clock. After the point in progress, if no team has reached halftime, it comes at the higher score plus 1.
At halftime, the board waits for "Resume play". A hard cap reached during the break ends the game, unless tied (universe point).
Then each ratio lasts two points (ABBA). "Flip the ratio" changes the next point only.
The team in end zone A picks the ratio on each point of the first half, the team in end zone B in the second half. Teams switch ends after every point.
Then the team that scores pulls; the second half starts with a pull by the team that received first. In mixed, the puller matches the majority on the line.
At 0, the game ends after the end in play; if tied, an extra end is played.
Each batter starts at this count; slo-pitch often uses 1-1.
The game ends when a team leads by this many runs once that inning is played, or as soon as the home team reaches it at bat.
Side-out: only the serving side scores. Rally scoring: every rally scores a point.
2 in a game to 11 or 15, 3 in a game to 21.
1: a game without sets.
Tied one point below the cap, the next point wins the game.
By sport: ball hockey, basketball, volleyball, pickleball, indoor soccer, ultimate, flag football, curling, softball, darts, badminton, table tennis
What the scoreboard tracks for badminton
In badminton, every rally gives a point to the side that wins it, and that side serves next, marked "Serve" on the board. The match is best of 3 games to 21 points, win by 2.
At 20-all, the game goes on until one side leads by 2, but never past 30: at 29-all, the next point wins it. The scoreboard calls each game won, puts the score back to 0-0 and keeps count in "Games won".
In the third game, it shows "Switch ends" when a side reaches 11, the moment players move to the other side of the net. At the end, the final score card gives each game's score, ready to copy or share.
The international federation moves to 3 games of 15 points, 21 at most, in January 2027: pick them in "BWF scoring", or keep 21 as many clubs do. The cap, the number of games and the points can be changed in "Game settings" too, and "Switch serve" fixes the serve.
The badminton court's score on a big screen
On the big screen (a TV, a laptop or a tablet), open the scoreboard and select "TV + phone remote".
On your phone, scan the QR code on the screen, or go to notreligue.ca/code and type the 5-character code.
Your phone becomes the remote: every action shows on the big screen within about a second.
You need internet on the screen and on your phone: the centre's Wi-Fi or a cell phone's hotspot. Nothing to install, and no account.
At each rally, you tap the side that wins it; the screen shows the score, the game and the serving side, easy to read from the stands. If the connection weakens, the score catches up as soon as it is back.
Frequently asked questions
What happens at 29-all?
The next point wins the game, 30-29. That is the game cap, set to 30 to start; you change it in "Game cap (points)".
Does the scoreboard handle the 2027 scoring to 15?
Yes. In "BWF scoring", pick 3 games of 15: win by 2, 21 at most, and the switch of ends at 8 in the third game.
Can the badminton score go on a gym screen?
Yes. On a TV, a laptop or a tablet, select "TV + phone remote": the points, the games won and the serve show in big type, and you score from your phone.
Can the umpire keep score from the chair?
Yes. The phone is the remote: one tap under the side that wins the rally, and the point and the serve change on the screen within about a second. Both devices need a connection.
