What the scoreboard tracks for ultimate
An ultimate (or ultimate frisbee) game is played to 15 points to start. Each point is +1, with no win by 2: the first team to 15 wins. A point given to the wrong team comes off with −1 or "Undo".
Halftime comes when a team reaches half the target, rounded up: 8 in a game to 15. The scoreboard says so and moves to the second half. Each team has 2 timeouts per half; at halftime its counter goes back to 2, and any it did not take are lost.
The time cap is optional. Tick it in "Game settings", pick its length (85 minutes to start) and start its clock on the first pull. At 0, the horn sounds and the point in progress is played out. With a hard cap, the game ends there unless it is tied, and then a universe point decides it. With a soft cap, the game then goes to the higher score plus 1.
For mixed, tick "Mixed: gender ratio" and pick the first point's ratio, for example 4 men-matching and 3 women-matching players. The scoreboard then shows the next point's ratio by the ABBA rule, right through halftime, abbreviated on the board: M for men-matching players, W for women-matching players. "Flip the ratio" changes the next point only. With 5 on the line: 3 and 2.
Frequently asked questions
When is halftime?
When a team reaches half the target, rounded up: 8 points in a game to 15, 6 in a game to 11. If you change the "Target score", halftime follows by itself.
What is the difference between a soft cap and a hard cap?
With a soft cap, the point in progress is played out, then 1 is added to the higher score: at 11-9 after that point, the game goes to 12. With a hard cap, the game ends after the point in progress; if tied, a universe point decides it.
How does the ABBA ratio work in mixed?
The first point is played with the chosen ratio (A), points 2 and 3 with the other one (B), points 4 and 5 with A, and so on, halftime included. The scoreboard moves one step with each point scored, whichever team scores, and steps back with "Undo".
Can I play to 13?
Yes. Enter 13 in "Target score", under "Game settings": the game ends at 13 and halftime comes at 7. The number of timeouts per half can be changed too, from 0 to 9.
