Darts average calculator: PPD and MPR

Type the points and darts of a 501 or 301 game, or the marks and rounds of a cricket game: the averages work out as you type. Nothing is saved, no account.

501 and 301: points per dart

  • Points per dart (PPD)–

  • 3-dart average–

Cricket: marks per round

  • Marks per round (MPR)–

The formulas, with an example

Points per dart (PPD): points scored divided by darts thrown. A 501 game finished in 27 darts gives 501 ÷ 27 = 18.56 points per dart. Electronic darts leagues and soft tip machines often show it.

The 3-dart average: points scored per round of 3 darts, so the PPD times 3. In the example, 501 ÷ 27 × 3 = 55.67. It is the average most quoted in steel tip darts.

Marks per round (MPR): marks divided by rounds. In cricket, on the numbers 15 to 20, a single is 1 mark, a double 2 and a triple 3; on the bull, the outer ring is 1 mark and the bullseye 2. 42 marks in 20 rounds give 42 ÷ 20 = 2.10 marks per round.

If your machine counts darts instead of rounds, divide them by 3 to get the rounds. Leagues sometimes have their own rule for marks on a number already closed: type the total your league or your machine uses.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between PPD and the 3-dart average?

PPD counts each dart, the 3-dart average counts each round of 3 darts. The second is always 3 times the first: a PPD of 20 is a 60 average.

Do the checkout darts count?

Yes, every dart thrown counts, even the ones that miss the double. If you finish with the first or second dart of a round, count only the darts you threw.

Does MPR work for 501?

No. MPR is the cricket average. In 501 and 301, use the PPD or the 3-dart average.

Does Notre Ligue work out these averages for my league?

No. A darts league on Notre Ligue keeps each night's result in games won and the standings, with no stats per player. Each player's averages are worked out here.

Are my numbers saved?

No. The math runs in your browser: nothing is sent or kept. Reloading the page clears everything.
